Communication skills for international conferences

Abstract

The book you have just opened is intended and designed for PhD students. It is part of a project supported by the Ministry of Youth, Education and Sports of the Czech Republic and should be used in Technical presentations course at the Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Applied Informatics, Tomas Bata University in Zlín; however, it can be also useful at other similar faculties. The course follows Academic Writing, so the skills acquired in the first one are supposed to be applied in this second course. The book summarizes knowledge and tasks which should develop skills necessary for professional lives of research workers, which PhD degrees holders definitely should be. Attention is paid to communication before a conference and during it, with some background information and justification of the procedures, with the stress on spoken communication and oral presentations.
